They have produced cars from 1964 including the D'Jet, 530, Bagheera, Murena, Rancho, the Renault Espace and Avantime.
After the production of the Avantime was ceased by Renault the factory in Romorantin was closed and in 2003 it was bought by Pininfarina.
Matra have a proven track record having won both F1 championships and Le Mans in the Sixties and Seventies.
